Beware the Savantis

At the height of the Old Empire, a secret organization called the Savantis, came into power throughout Lumios. Worshipers of the dark goddess Lumenas, the second of Physera’s great dragons, the Savantis were powerful human mages. Their tutelage in the arts of magic began with the elves, and in time, they began to worship Lumenas in an effort to increase their power beyond even that of their former teachers.

The Savantis were incredibly driven and inserted themselves into the highest ranks of the Old Empire. Their influence became so vast, they managed to name a very many important things after their goddess.

With the aid of Lumenas, the Savantis were able to discover Prana, a powerful source of magical energy. They believed that by researching and ultimately understanding Prana, they may be able to surpass the elven mages in power. In time, they thought that they might create life itself using Prana. They were successful and soon thought to create their own deity, a creature so imbued with Prana that he would be able to match the power of the gods themselves.

It was then that they began construction of the Nightspire, a powerful relic which they believed could be used to gather Prana at a much faster rate than mining it, by leading the Savantis to the source of the Prana. However, when they activated the Nightspire, they found that other realm was full of shadowspawn, which rushed through this open pathway to destroy the world of Lumios. This incident became known as The Breaking and nearly ended life as we know it on Lumios.

Now Iriaphos, goddess of light and justice, warns that Lumenas aims to rise to power once more... and that the ancient Savantis once again plot to open the Nightspire, in a second attempt to harness the power of Prana.
