History of Humankind
The Elven historical texts state that humans first appeared in Lumios, the world of Bless, soon after the Varg. They began their time on the land in immediate conflict and a fight for survival.
The Tribal Wars
Humans first appeared on Lumios near what is now Carzacor. At the time, the area was inhabited by tribes of orcs. They began hunting humans for sport. The humans banded together in ever larger groups, finding safety in numbers. Orc hunting parties grew in size, as the human groups grew, and the cycle continued between hunter and hunted. Eventually, humans began building fortifications, leading to two things: the first human cities and the first massive war on the continent.
Humans were able to come together and combine their might to stand against the ever-looming threat of the stronger orcs. Over time these humans created strongholds where they were able to establish a foothold on the land and eventually claim it as their own. Safe behind their fortifications, the humans prospered and soon their population outgrew that of the orcs. The humans were later able to drive the orcs from their lands with their superior numbers.
With the orc threat dealt with, humans thrived for a short while. As adolescents are known to do though, they then began to squabble amongst themselves, leading to the Second Tribal War. This time, it was human tribes who fought against each other, eventually conquering one another. Those who were victorious founded the first human nations. The warring continued until only one remained and eventually the disparate nations were united into what is known as the Old Empire. This ended what is now referred to as “The Dark Age” by modern human scholars.
The Old Empire
Humans continued to show resourcefulness and creativity, moving on to create expansive roads, waterways, and trading hubs. These dramatically expanded their empire. Their dominance over Lumios could not be disputed.
The immortal elves lived their lives as they had for thousands of years - never changing. The naturalistic varg continued to resist the change happening outside their forest homes, allowing the humans to become the dominant species in the land. But the other races grew curious about the humans, who seemed to have united and changed their chaotic ways. Trade flourished between the races. Humans learned magic from the ancient elves, while teaching them techniques for human infrastructure. Humans traded grain and drink with the varg for luxurious furs and tasty meats.
Nyra Turis
The innate chaotic and warring nature of humankind continued even as they flourished across Lumios. As time went on, human mages sought more and more power. Humanity's competitive nature was its biggest strength and its greatest weakness. Eventually, human mages discovered what they thought may be an avenue to this through magic that the elves had long since forbidden.
At Nyra Turis, using new magic they did not understand, a group of human mages tried to open a gate to another dimension. The disaster of Nyra Turis brought horrendous devastation to the land. The human’s hubris cost the elves their immortality, the varg’s forests burned, and even the gods themselves paid the price of humanity’s action. The Old Empire fell.
