The Island of Mystery

The Isle of Enchantment is located along the southern border of the Gnoll Wastes. The desert gives way to lush and beautiful jungle islands. Locals claim the fairies call The Isle of Enchantment their home and defend it with powerful magic to keep unwanted visitors out.

Local legend states that long ago the fairies were more insular neighbors. They kept to themselves, not enjoying the company of other races except on rare occasion. However, a conqueror rose in the region and set his sights on the island kingdom’s fertile land. When the conqueror brought his army to the island, the queen of the fairies appeared on the river. She pleaded for the conqueror to turn back and allow her people to live in peace.

The conqueror did not listen. He took his armies to the island’s shore and was met with heavy resistance. The fairies fought with all their might but the army eventually took the island. When the fairy queen was finally captured, she was taken before the victorious would-be king, who demanded her surrender and fealty.

Instead, the fairy queen took her own life but not before using her own blood to fuel a curse on the conquering army. The would-be king and his army were transformed into savage monsters driven by base instinct alone. They turned on each other, forming into packs and fighting amongst themselves. The conqueror, once poised to write his own history, faded from memory into myth and legend. The fairies retreated deeper into their island and cut off all contact with the outside world. The locals claim this was the beginning of the Gnoll Tribes.

Today, it is all but impossible to set foot on the Isle of Enchantment, unless one wins the favor of the fairies who live there.
