The One Eyed Legion
The first cyclops was born from Chaos.
One of the first races made by the Chaos Gods, the Cyclops were born with a gruesome visage and only one eye each. This single eye was both feared and held in awe by the other races, as it was said that a Cyclops could only see the purest good or darkest evil in a thing. For, it was believed, one must have two eyes to perceive both good and evil at once.
This singular vision allowed the Cyclops to become renowned blacksmiths and engineers, using their unique sight to spot the flaws in the metals they worked, the plans they drew, and the great works they built. They lived alongside the other races in harmony, frequently sought-after for their unparalleled craftsmanship.
But when Physera waged a war to expel Daimon and the other gods of chaos from our world, the Cyclops’ legendary skill became a liability. Daimon’s followers tricked the Cyclops, gifting them with a cursed mirror that reflected only the worst aspects of the user. The Cyclops saw their gross appearance and destructive strength and, enchanted by the cursed mirror, became convinced of the evil within themselves...
Newly-committed to their evil fate, and fooled into believing that Physera was responsible for their haphazard creation, the Cyclops created an army. They called themselves the One Eyed Legion, and forged terrifying new weapons capable of slaying the gods themselves. Thus armed, they joined the forces of chaos to wage war against Physera and the other gods of order.
To prevent this new Cyclops army from turning the tide of battle, Physera was forced to order their destruction. Iraphos, the goddess of light, led the charge that pushed the One Eyed Legion back to their volcanic home. There she broke the mirror which enchanted them—but as the cursed mirror shattered, the Cyclops’ minds broke with it. They flew into a murderous rage, attacking one another in a bloody frenzy. When the killing was finally over, the One Eyed Legion lay in ruins.
Those few Cyclops who survived the slaughter had fallen to insanity. Finally able to perceive both good and evil, it was too much for their minds to contain. As a cruel mercy, Physera dulled the minds of those that remained in an attempt to ease their madness. Once the most sought-after of artisans, the Cyclops now retained little more than bestial intelligence. Their powerful god-slaying weapons were carefully hidden away by the very gods they were meant to kill, and the remnants of this once-mighty race now wanders Lumios in a stupor—lonely, dimwitted, and dangerous. An eternal warning against accepting any gifts the gods of chaos choose to offer.
