SAND LAND – Dev Diaries - Episode 1: Enemies and vehicles
Check out the details about SAND LAND enemies and vehicles in the first episode of Dev Diaries
Beneath the enigmatic sands of SAND LAND, countless secrets and challenges lie hidden. To deal with all of them, the protagonist Beelzebub will have many tricks up his sleeve. In the Episode 1 of our Developer Diaries series, Samantha Reinert, Social Marketing Manager at Bandai Namco Entertainment America, and Keishu Minami, the Producer of SAND LAND, delve into the core mechanics of this Bandai Namco Entertainment title, inspired by the work of Akira Toriyama, the legendary author of DRAGON BALL.
Minami reveals that Beelzebub has an arsenal full of resources to combat the adversaries encountered in his search for the Legendary Spring, from powerful abilities to completely customizable vehicles. The Demon Prince can execute combos with basic attacks or employ powerful special techniques to quickly eliminate groups of enemies. Furthermore, as the player progresses in SAND LAND, it will be possible to improve and unlock techniques through a skill tree, which guarantees many ways to get into action.
While these techniques are perfect for facing smaller enemies or groups of enemies, larger enemies or tanks from the Royal Army require a bit more preparation. This is where the vehicles of SAND LAND come in.
Vehicles are one of the major charms of the game. Tanks, Motorcycles, Jump-Bots, and many others: there are various types of them, each with their own characteristics that provide different advantages on the battlefield – or beyond it. For example, Battle Tanks are perfect for direct combat and have access to powerful shots that can wreak havoc; meanwhile, Jump-Bots can leap over cliffs, reach high altitudes, and, thanks to their mobility, avoid some enemies easily. There are also Hover, Battle Armor, and much more, all inspired by Akira Toriyama's unique style, as seen in the Sand Land manga.
In addition to the variety of vehicles, customization is also a determining factor. It's possible to choose the main weapon, secondary weapon, type of ammunition, engine, and much more for each vehicle. Each component comes with different parameters – and often appearances – and every player can showcase their favorite style while seeking the best strategies to handle various challenges.
But all these powers and customizable vehicles would be in vain without enemies capable of testing players' choices, and there are different types of them. From those who utilize vehicles to large monsters dwelling in the desert.
Among them is the Greater Desert Crocodile, a swift and menacing opponent, best confronted with agility, whether on a motorcycle to maintain distance or in a jump-bot to keep up with its movements and strike at the right moment. There's also an encounter well-known to manga fans: the Geji Dragon. Upon encountering it, the player will only need a vehicle to escape its attacks and pursue it through the desert until finding its nest, where they can face it in the best way they see fit. It is an absolutely formidable enemy.
The ways to overcome each enemy are many, and therein lies one of the greatest joys of SAND LAND.
